Anklet”) is an ancient Tamil epic composed by the poet Illango
Adigal around the 5th - 6th century CE. It tells the tragic story of
Kannagi, whose husband Kovalan is unjustly executed for theft,
leading her to curse and destroy the city of Madura. Blending
poetry, drama, and moral themes, it is one of the Five Great Epics
of Tamil literature and a cornerstone of early South Indian cultural
history.
